Off-Campus Work Study
The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program at UT Dallas benefits everyone in our community.
Employers hire knowledgeable workers at a lower cost to them, with wage coverage by UTD between 75% and 100%. Students gain knowledge and skills to help them prepare for their future careers. If you have questions or want more information, please contact us at workstudy@utdallas.edu.
Employer Advantage
Federal Work-Study partners have premium access to qualified UTD candidates. Benefits include wage coverage of between 75% – 100%, expedited job posting approvals and complimentary outreach to FWS recipients.
We offer free access to post your jobs on Handshake, our career services platform and job board. Selecting your candidate from the Handshake applicant pool is at your discretion.
Federal Guidelines
- Students can work up to 20 hr/week at an hourly rate of pay
- Funding period is from Sept 1 to May 15 each academic year
- The work-study positions must not replace full-time staff
- Students must have proper supervision for their tasks
- Employers sign an Annual Agreement to stay in good standing
- FWS funds cannot be used for political or religious organizations
Comets Serve
The Comets Serve employment program provides supplemental funding for local non-profit, government, and community-based organizations to hire UT Dallas students for part-time employment. Participants serve the local community while receiving paid work experience. Students who participate in the Comets Serve program work within area non-profits who have a civil engagement mission.

America Reads/Counts Program
The America Reads/Counts Program (AR/AC) is a division of the Federal Work-Study Program that trains students to be tutors for various Reading and Mathematics programs. UT Dallas Students participating in the program currently serve the Dallas, Richardson and Plano area school districts as AVID tutors and participating campuses look forward to their return each year.
These students receive coordination from the Student Employment Office and supplemental training by the UTD Student Success Center.
